Harbour surveys
MMT perform harbour surveys for planning, construction or dredging purposes. Other uses of harbour surveys are ensuring safe depths, verifying sea charts and updating sea charts.

MMT operates several different mulibeam echo sounders for harbor surveys. The vessels are also equipped with side-scan sonars and sub-bottom profilers which can be used to map the sediment regimes.

We deliver the information as filtered data sets, databases, AutoCAD or GIS products as well as colour charts. MMT handles several local coordinate systems.

Our purpose-built vessel Ping is an efficient and cost-effective solution for harbour mapping. Ping can be transported to site by trailer, truck or our larger survey vessels. Ping is also built to fit into a standard size container, which enables transport for remote projects.

MMT also offers different solutions for very shallow water, inaccessible by multibeam echo sounder vessels.

Bathymetry processing

Bathymetry data describes the underwater depth of the seas, that is to say the underwater hypsometry. Bathymetric charts typically show seafloor terrain as a Digital Terrain Model together with contour lines and selected soundings.

The processing of bathymetric data at MMT is performed in the software packages CARIS HIPS & SIPS and IVS Fledermaus. We use GNSS-tide together with a geoid model to correct bathymetry data in the vertical direction. The software we use to derive the GNSS-tide is Applanix POSPac MMS.
MMT has several oceanographers and hydrographic processers working on bathymetric data, both at the office and offshore. The staff receive regular training on both in-house and external courses.

CAD – Computer Aided Design
The final products of the majority of our projects are paper reports and charts. These survey charts are produced in AutoCAD Map, a software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. The plotted charts can be adapted for the planning of pipelines, power cables, wind farms, harbours and bridges among other possible uses. The charts also provide a basis for the written report.
MMT has good connoisseurship in working with CAD and practical experience since 1984. We have a number of personnel who only work with CAD, both at our office and offshore.
A large proportion of the reporting staff are authorized by Autodesk, and receive regular training.
