The six-metre vibrocorer being launched from MMT’s multipurpose vessel IceBeam
The six-metre vibrocorer being launched from MMT’s multipurpose vessel IceBeam

In recent years MMT have conducted geotechnical surveys in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.  Sediment samplings have been executed in challenging areas with extreme water depths and steep slopes. The sampling is performed by a variety of equipment such as grab samplers, boxcorers, gravity corers, vibrocorers and CPTs.

MMT has highly qualified personnel who are experienced in both geophysical and geotechnical surveys. We offer a set-up allowing operation with a geophysical survey directly followed by a geotechnical survey from the same vessel. This optimises mobilisation time and allows swift operation. Geotechnical surveys can be performed from any of our vessels.

We have well established cooperation with carefully chosen subcontractors, who are used for specific geotechnical tasks and laboratory analysis.

MMT has participated in several geotechnical projects. We have the in-house knowledge needed for the marine operation, but use external laboratories for detailed sediment analysis.

Examples of projects which include both acoustic survey and geotechnical analysis:
•    Scotland – Shetland HVDC link (>100 vibrocores in turbid water conditions)
•    Rathlin Power connection (vibrocorer and CPT)
•    BGR North Sea mapping (vibrocorer)
•    IGI Greece-Italy pipeline (deep water sampling, 1500 metres)
•    Skanled pipeline survey (vibrocorer)
