Updated survey spread for M/V Franklin
MMT’s survey vessel Franklin has been in MMTs fleet since 2005. It has recently been upgraded with new survey equipment to continue to deliver the best possible data to its clients. For shallow waters EM2040D has been installed. This gives MMTs clients the highest resolution on the market in any type of seabed mapping.
The vessel has also been upgraded with a Kongsberg Topas PS40, a state of the art hull mounted parametric sub-bottom profiler with ultra-high resolution in water depths down to 2000 meters. This will add to the vessels existing 2000m capacity with the already fitted EM710 MBES.
The acceptance tests of the new systems were successfully performed in February outside Lysekil on the Swedish west coast. An in-house developed synchronization unit is used to avoid any cross talk between the systems. The Topas 40 will add the benefit of high spatial resolution in the sediment profiles. The narrow beam results in low received reverberation levels allowing for high penetration of the sediment strata.
MMT’s COO Nils Ingvarson comments upon the upgrade: “The upgrade of Franklin is a natural step for MMT to make sure that all vessels in the fleet is up to date with the latest survey equipment on the market.”
